Long have the Clippers lived in the shadow of other Los Angeles franchises. They were metaphorically wandering the southern California desert for decades before building a spot they can call their own. Today is the Clippers housewarming party.

The Los Angeles Clippers’ Home Sweet Home

LA Clippers owner, Steve Ballmer, delivered on a place for Clippers players and fans that is for the ClippersIntuit Dome is in Inglewood, ironically right next to where the NFL Los Angeles Chargers play… so both former San Diego franchises are close by again. It is the newest, most technologically advanced stadium in the NBA and it belongs to the Clippers.

The major advantage for the Clippers is they will no longer be at the bottom of the schedule making totem pole. That is to say the Lakers, Kings, and Sparks will no longer have priority over the Clippers at Crypto.com Arena. Long have the Clippers been the afterthought and forced to play weird schedules of prolonged road trips, back-to-back games in less than 24 hours, and weird break lengths.

No doubt the Intuit Dome will be rocking for its inaugural game and opening night… but will it be enough to get past the high-flying Phoenix Suns? It will be tough as the Clippers lost Paul George in free agency, and Kawhi Leonard starts out unable to play, something that could take the wind out of the Clippers sails.

Los Angeles Clippers Starting Lineup

There are some changes to the starting lineup but they were filled with mostly familiar faces. Terance Mann is expected to make a big jump and could have a good impression in this game. Veteran Norman Powell is listed as a guard but could play more of a forward as him and Mann can play shooting guard/small forward interchangeably.

James Harden will still be a great offensive threat and will be looking to get his teammates involved early. Meanwhile Zubac is a steady veteran who usually earns 10 rebounds or more a game. He could have an uptick in his stats with Leonard out.

Same Ol’ Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns seem to be in ‘finals or bust’ mode for the entirety of this decade. Crazy thing to say for a franchise that has a new owner, and gone through 3 head coaches in the 2020s but that is the case. The pressure is on the Suns who made a few changes to their roster but will be lacking a front court presence… again.

Phoenix Suns Starting Lineup

I know what you’re thinking, in what world is Beal a small forward? The Suns are running a 4-1 offense with four guards/scorers on the perimeter and Nurkic in the paint. He will be looking for rebounds and to set screens, but won’t contribute much offensively. The Western Conference is loaded with big, strong front courts, it will be interesting to see if their strategy works.

The Suns do have a better bench this year, and it starts with last year’s starter, Grayson Allen who is moving to a sixth man role. He was a spot up scorer last year with a lethal wetter from behind the arc. Royce O’Neale and Mason Plumlee should provide some tough defense while they are in as well, but Allen will be asked to score for the second unit.

Suns vs. Clippers Predictions & Picks Today: Wednesday, October 23rd

Over 220 + Powell Over 3.5R + Mann Over 9.5P + Allen 3+ 3PM (+1000 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Our Suns vs. Clippers predictions for today is a fourfold parlay begins with a teased down point total. The over/under is set at 224.5 and the over was teased down four points with the hook removed as 220.5 did not increase our odds. Simply put the Suns are a high scoring team who does not enjoy playing defense. In fact, as sad as it is to say Kevin Durant is probably their best all-around defender… and he is known as a scorer. The tease down is just to add a little insurance without damaging the odds.

The Clippers will be forced to match their pace and will be feeding off of the buzz of the first game at Intuit Dome. Two new starters in particular should have a great night. Terrance Mann over 9.5 points and Norman Powell over 3.5 rebounds were added to the parlay.

Mann has not been an opening day starter but still been a high-energy scorer with the second unit. He averages 9.3 points per game over his career and should have more points tonight.

Powell averages 2.6 rebounds per game over his career, and has averaged over 2.5 in all three years with the Clippers. With Leonard out and Zubac constantly playing with lower/restricted minutes there will be rebounding opportunities for the long time vet. Look for him to use experience and position to earn four rebounds tonight.

The last fold is Grayson Allen 3+ threes made. This was a steady bet at one point last season and with Allen playing with the second unit, he should have more opportunities to have the ball in his hands. This will lead to more field goal attempts, and Allen is very comfortable behind the three-point line. He is listed as day-to-day but is expected to play today.

Normally a half a unit is recommended for parlays, but with a free $50 token given out, a full unit is recommended for this ticket. 10 units earned on the second night of the NBA would be a great way to build off of the perfect 4 of 4 start yesterday.
